Southampton weather has a milder climate than most areas of the British Isles, due to the fact that it is located on the southern coastline of England.  The weather in Southampton is temperate, with only slight temperature variations between summer and winter, night and day.

Southampton weather is being moderated by the sea and at the same time it is being protected against the influences of the Atlantic coast.  The best time to visit the city is considered to be between July and September, when the weather is warmer and drier.

The city receives fair amounts of rain throughout the year, although in general, the wettest months tend to be December and January.  During these months Southampton receives an average precipitation of around 90 mm.  The average daytime temperature is around 9 C and it usually does not drop below freezing at night.

Spring can also be a little damp and windy at times, although the weather becomes warmer by May, with clear skies and sunny days.  Summers are rarely excessively hot, with temperatures ranging between 14 C and 22 C.  Occasionally the temperature will be as high as 30 C or even higher during the summer months.

Southampton weather, similarly to the rest of England, rarely experiences extreme weather conditions.   Snow is not a frequent phenomenon and the temperature hardly ever drops below freezing.  The average for January is 5 C and 18 C for July.   The days are longer during summer, as the sun sets around 22.00 o’clock at night.  Southampton enjoys approximately 1540 hours of sunlight annually.
